This is the signature cocktail of the Hotel Monteleone successful New Orleans, wherever Tales of the Cocktail was held. The Vieux Carré was created successful 1938 by Walter Bergeron, past the caput bartender. The sanction comes from the French sanction for the Old Quarter.

  • 3/4 ounce rye whiskey
  • 3/4 ounce cognac
  • 3/4 ounce saccharine vermouth
  • 1/8 spoon Benedictine liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 citrus twist, for garnish
